The fashion for the cross-coupe reached and Volkswagen: the new version of Atlas is ready to debutNovember 21, 2018
A photo of a German coupe SUV Volkswagen Atlas appeared on the Web. According to preliminary data, the new version will become global.
Last year, Volkswagen introduced a seven-seat crossover to the market – in the USA, the model is called Atlas, and in China it is known as the Teramont. By the way, all-terrain vehicles are made in the States and China, but they are supplied to us from an American factory, but under a Chinese name. At the beginning of this year, the five-seater version of the model debuted at the New York Auto Show; it was presented in the form of the Atlas Cross Sport coupe concept. Now there is a snapshot of the serial version, and it was made in China. Photo published edition of Autohome.
Judging by the picture, the Atlas five-seater five-seater retained the coupe body, although the exterior design is still different from the prototype. Thus, the conveyor cross received lights in the style of a three-row donor SUV, plus the bumper and rear racks changed at the cross-coupe.
The dimensions of the new version are still unknown. The length of the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport concept is 4846 mm, which is 190 mm less than that of the American Atlas. The distance between the axles is the same 2979 mm as the three-row model designed for the States. The length of the Chinese large Atlas is 5039 mm, wheelbase – 2980 mm.
Data about the “stuffing” cross-coupe either. The prototype was presented with a 360-strong hybrid installation with the possibility of charging from the mains, it included the engine VR6 3.6, a pair of electric motors (one helps to rotate the front wheels, the second is installed on the rear axle), a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 18 kWh (it was placed in the central tunnel) and a six-speed DSG gearbox. Only on the electric car such a car can travel 42 kilometers, and then the crossover will be rear-wheel drive. Also during the premiere for the Atlas Cross Sport announced a hybrid installation without the possibility of recharging: these are the same motors, but their total capacity is 314 hp, and the battery capacity is only 2 kWh, movement on electricity is not provided. It is not excluded that the commodity five-seat cross-country will also have hybrid versions.
Seven-seater Volkswagen Atlas in the USA can be bought with a 2.0 TSI turbo four (238 hp in the US) and with the already mentioned engine VR6 3.6, both engines are combined with an eight-speed automatic. In China, the 2.0 TSI engine has two power options – 186 and 220 hp, in addition, the Chinese Atlas has a V6 2.5 EA390 turbo engine with a return of 299 hp.
The five-seater cross-coupe will enter the Chinese and American markets next year. Before us, such a version will most likely get as well, it will obviously be cheaper than a seven-seater SUV.
By the way, not so long ago, the cross-coupe also appeared in the Skoda brand – the Kodiaq GT SUV is already available in China. The Skoda claim that this modification is intended only for the Middle Kingdom, although it was caught in Europe. It is possible that later Kodiaq GT will still be released in other markets.
