The fall of the French car market in May amounted to 50%June 13, 2020
Despite a significant decrease compared with last year’s indicator, a positive trend has been outlined in relation to March and April.
Based on data from the French Chamber of Commerce (CCFA), specialists from the analytics and statistics agency spoke about sales of new cars in the French car market in May 2020. In total, the inhabitants of France during the reporting period purchased 96,310 new cars, which is 50.3% lower than last year’s figure for the same period.
If we talk about the first five months, then from the beginning of January to the end of May 2020, the French bought 481 986 new cars – a minus of 48.5%. The most popular brand among residents of France remains the local brand Renault, whose dealers in May were able to sell 18 43 cars (-49.9%). On the second line is Peugeot with the result of 15,214 cars sold. Among the leaders, this brand showed the worst dynamics – “minus” 56.3%.
“Bronze” rating goes to another local automaker – Citroen, whose sales in May amounted to 9 567 units. (-54.7%).
Dacia is in fourth place with a score of 6,351 sold cars (-51.2%). German Volkswagen complements the TOP-5 – 6,237 residents of France stopped their choice on cars of this brand in May.
