Isuzu patented the exterior of the second generation MU-X all-terrain vehicle
The exterior of the new frame SUV Isuzu MU-X was revealed in patent photographs found on the website of Japanese certification authorities. The all-terrain vehicle will retain the seven-seater three-row cabin, but will move to the more modern Isuzu Dynamic Drive platform, familiar from the D-Max pickup. The premiere of the model is scheduled for 2021.
The first generation Isuzu MU-X was a redesigned Chevrolet Trailblazer, but the Japanese firm will develop a new SUV on its own.
Structurally, the MU-X will be close to the third generation D-Max truck – the all-terrain vehicle will be based on a new reinforced and lightweight frame, and the double wishbone suspension will remain in front. According to the Australian press, the architecture of the rear suspension in the pickup and SUV will be different: leaf springs will be abandoned in favor of independent spring suspension to increase ride comfort and increase interior space.
No surprises in the power plant are expected: MU-X will probably keep both turbodiesels, the base 150-horsepower (350 Nm) RZ4E 1.9-liter, and the “cargo” 3.0-liter 4JJ3 engine with 190 horsepower and 450 torque. Nm. Both engines will be combined with 6-speed gearboxes – manual and automatic Aisin. All-wheel drive system – part-time type, with a rigidly connected front axle.
The new Isuzu MU-X is expected to be fully declassified in 2021. The current generation all-terrain vehicle is sold in Southeast Asia, China, South America and Australia, but the transition to its own architecture will allow the Japanese company to expand its sales geography.
