The company Toyota plans to present the serial version of the revived Supra sports car in January at the Detroit auto show. It is reported by Autocar, with reference to the official representative of the brand. According to him, right after the premiere, the car will be on sale. Car prices will be announced later.
The new Supra will share the platform with the third generation BMW Z4 roadster – German and Japanese specialists have been working together to develop a chassis for the new generation sports car since 2014. In the model lineup of the Japanese brand, the car will take a step above the GT86 and become the new flagship coupe of the Japanese company.
The new Supra will get an in-line six-cylinder engine, front-engine layout and rear-wheel drive. According to preliminary data, we are talking about a 3.0-liter gasoline unit BMW, which will develop about 340 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The coupe can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km / h in approximately 4.5 seconds.
The engine of the car will work in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission ZF. The body of the car is made of aluminum and steel. The whole machine will be about 1500 kg, and the weight distribution along the axes is 50:50.
In the future, the model will have a version with a hybrid power plant, created on the basis of the same motor. Plus, later the coupe will have a “charged” GRMN modification.
The original Toyota Supra was produced from 1978 to 2002 and during this time managed to change four generations. The history of the model began with a car that was part of the Celica line and was called the Supra Celica.
