The creator of the “unbreakable” screens of smartphones made a windshield for FordSeptember 25, 2019
So far, there are glasses for F-150 pickups only on sale
The company Corning, which is known as the creator of one of the toughest glasses for smartphones Gorilla Glass, has created a windshield for the Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The car is one of the best-selling models in the United States, with most buyers using it as a working machine. Due to the fact that pickups are often operated on the roads, the windshield is almost instantly covered with chips, and sometimes cracks.
Corning decided to help pickup owners and created a replacement for the standard glass from its heavy-duty Gorilla Glass. It is made at temperatures above 1000 degrees Celsius, and then subjected to chemical treatment. Thanks to this technology, the output is glass, which is 80 percent less susceptible to damage.
You can buy glass on the Hyperfomance website, and the company promises a two-year warranty against damage. Such a glass costs 900 dollars. Factory glass will cost almost half the price, but its service life will be much less, especially when operating on the road.
The Gorilla Glasses windshield can already be installed on the Jeep Wrangler SUV – this is provided by Mopar. There is a tempered glass, as in the case of the F-150, two times more expensive than usual – 550 dollars. A Ford supercar from Ford is already equipped with heavy-duty glass from the factory.
