The creator of the Audi A7 Sportback becomes the chief designer of SeatOctober 21, 2020
Jorge Diez has been named the new “Design Director” for Seat and Cupra. He will take office on December 1.
Seat is very excited about the chief designer’s return as Jorge Diez is no stranger here: he was already head of Seat’s exterior design from 2011 to 2014 and was responsible for the design of the third generation Leon, the fourth generation Ibiza and Seat’s first SUV, the Ateca. After a series of wanderings inside and outside the Volkswagen Group, the designer returns to his native company.
Seat CEO Wayne Griffiths does not hide his enthusiasm for this: “Jorge Diez is one of the most talented designers in the automotive industry,” he says. “His signature is on many of our most important models of the past decade. It’s great news that he is returning to Seat. His international experience and the values of the Seat and Cupra brands will be reflected in the models we will launch in the coming years. ”
His name may not be well known to the general public, but the cars that Jorge Diez designed are known to everyone. Prior to joining Seat, he worked at Audi for 7 years. The second generation TT and the first A7 were drawn by him. In 2014, Diez returned to Audi after working for Seat. He was director of Automotive Konzept Design in Munich and also worked for Lamborghini and Ducati. In July 2019, he briefly joined Mitsubishi’s European Design division as Vice President. With its clean lines at Seat, it’s clear that the brand will continue this design language in the future.
