The Chinese want to charge electric cars from spaceFebruary 21, 2019
China announced its ambitious plans to create the first solar power station in space, with which it will be possible to charge electric vehicles.
In the plans of scientists to launch the first miniature prototypes already in the years 2021-2025.
One of the authors of the idea, Pan Tsihao, stated that such an orbital power station could provide humanity with an inexhaustible source of clean energy. In this case, the reliability of security in this case will reach 99.9%.
It is planned that the intensity of such an orbital station will be six times greater than that of its ground-based counterparts. Thus, you can, for example, charge electric vehicles anywhere in the world.
By 2030, China intends to launch a spacecraft, which will produce one megawatt of electricity. The weight of such a unit will reach one ton. We intend to place it at a distance of 36 kilometers from the surface of the planet. Energy will be transmitted to Earth through microwaves and laser radiation.
At the moment, scientists face the greatest problem – how to launch this system into space. Its weight is more than twice the weight of the ISS. To solve this problem, the developers are thinking about how to build it right in orbit, using 3D printing.
Another hitch is that in this case there is a threat of microwave radiation for the atmosphere and ecology of the planet.
