The Chinese have made batteries for electric vehicles even saferMay 4, 2020
Aiways Chinese startup on Monday, May 4, showed off the debut in the world battery pack with a sandwich structure.
A feature of the patented design is an insulating plate between the radiator and the cells, which prevents leakage of coolant even with severe deformation of the entire unit, which makes it safe.
The 63 kWh Chinese battery pack is a multi-layer “sandwich” that includes battery cells, a radiator for the cooling system and an insulating plate. Due to this plate, it turns out to provide additional self-isolation and protect the module from coolant leaks. According to the company, it is the ingress of refrigerant into the dry area of the cells that provokes 80% of incidents that are related to the safety of electric vehicle batteries.
The entire unit is controlled by an integrated control system that operates on the basis of complex algorithms for assessing the degree of charge (SOC). Natural tests have shown that the U5 cross with such a battery can travel 300 km at an ambient temperature of only 0 degrees.
