The cheapest VW electric car is a tech crossoverMay 7, 2020
Volkswagen continues to work on a new line of electric vehicles. Following the VW ID.3 and the upcoming ID.4 crossover, the cheapest electric model will appear – ID.1.
The novelty will take the place of the base Volkswagen electric car, but basically will not use the MEB modular platform. This is due to the fact that the planned body length of up to 4 m is not combined with the minimum possible platform size. Therefore, ID.1 will receive a unique design.
The only hint of car design is last year’s Christmas teaser, on which the car is depicted quite schematically. By 2023, when the new model is already ready, the exterior can undergo many changes.
In the lineup, the car will replace the VW e-Up and offer a range of 200-250 km. At the same time, the predicted price is less than 20,000 euros. And in some countries, taking into account state support, the amount may drop to 14 thousand.
Volkswagen ID.1 will also exist in the form of a crossover, which will help make the model even more popular. Despite the fact that the novelty will not be built on the basis of MEB, its components will be used in the basis. The main feature – wireless system updates – will be applied along with other ID models.
