The BMW Group will prepare a hydrogen car by 2030October 14, 2016
BMW said that in the beginning of the next decade will launch a vehicle that runs on hydrogen fuel cells. During a speech at the Aachen Colloquium “Automobile and Engine Technology” member of the BMW AG Board of Management, Klaus Fröhlich, said that the company will initially produce hydrogen model into limited quantities before launching additional models, when the infrastructure improved.
“BMW will enter the market of fuel cells at the beginning of the next decade, starting with a very small circulation,” – he said. “However, until 2025, at least the cost will be too high and the hydrogen infrastructure is too poor to provide penetration of the market in large scale. By that time, we will develop the basic principles and the BMW Group will also have a ready-made commercial products, attractive to customers. ”
Last year, the automaker showed its i8 hydrogen prototypes and 5-Series GT, as the precursor of the first production hydrogen car. The technology is being developed together with Toyota, but at this stage it is not clear whether BMW intends to create its first hydrogen model in a completely new car, or instead to change the current model.
