The BMW 1 Series will get a 138 hp three-cylinder engineApril 1, 2019
The updated 1 Series hatchback will be introduced by BMW later this year. After last week some of the technical characteristics of the “preheated” M140i were made public, new details about the remaining, less powerful versions of the long-awaited news appeared.
According to journalists from Auto Express, the base model (118i) of the updated 1st series will receive a gasoline 3-cylinder turbocharged engine with a 1.5-liter working capacity, developing 138 hp. Apparently for a new generation of model, version 116i should not wait. This is an additional 4 hp compared to its predecessor. A 7-speed automatic transmission with double clutch will be offered as a transmission, which should also increase productivity. Recall that the current version of this car boasts acceleration to 100 km / h in 8.7 seconds.
The transition to the FAAR platform with front-wheel drive will allow the new product to save about 20 kg of total weight, as well as increase the amount of free space in the cabin and trunk.
If you need a diesel, the new BMW 1 Series in the 120d version will get a 2.0-liter engine producing 190 hp. Power will be directed to the front wheels or all at once, through the xDrive all-wheel drive system. In any case, the motor will work with an 8-speed “automatic” with double clutch.
In the future, an electrified version of the Bavarian compact hatchback will be presented, and it will use the updated installation, borrowed from the kid MINI Cooper S E Countryman. The latter received a 3-cylinder gasoline engine working with an electric motor, the total power is 221 hp (385 Nm).
