The journalists published photos from the tests of the prototype of the Volkswagen ID.5 electric crossover. The vehicle received a slight camouflage.

Volkswagen is actively promoting its electric vehicles, which are sold under the ID sub-brand. The company has already introduced the ID.3 and ID.4 models, and the ID.5 may be on the way soon. The next model in the ID family will be a variant of the ID.4 electric crossover, so its exact name is difficult to determine. It could be called ID.4 Coupe, ID.4 GTX or ID.5. While its name remains a mystery, its appearance is not, as the latest spy shots show the crossover with a bit of camouflage.

It is not the first time foreign spy photographers have noticed the prototype of this coupe-like crossover in the wild without any camouflage coverings.

Previous spy shots have shown that the model looks production-ready time and again, but VW has yet to officially unveil it. This may change soon after the company announced that it will unveil the ID.4 GTX later this month – if what we call ID.5 here is actually the ID.4 GTX. We’ll find out soon enough.

In the pictures we can see a crossover that is very similar to the ID.4, although VW has slightly redesigned it. It has a more stylish rear window combined with a different tailgate, which harmonizes with the overall sleek design of the body. Below is the bumper with fake dual exhaust, which suggests it’s a sportier crossover. The interior of ID.5 should be similar to the one available in ID.4.

ID.5 will share its powertrains with ID.4. This means that the new model will come with a rear-wheel drive configuration with a 201 hp engine. (150 kW), and with an all-wheel drive twin-engine unit with a capacity of 302 hp. (225 kW). As early as April 28, the German brand is due to unveil the ID.4 GTX.

Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote that VW is adding a new 148bhp engine to the 2021 ID.3 lineup. Volkswagen has made the ID.3 line more affordable with a new Pure Performance variant in City and Style trim levels.
