Tesla will build an updated Model Y in GermanySeptember 14, 2020
Tesla will manufacture the new Model Y at its first European plant near Berlin. This was announced by CEO Elon Musk on Thursday, September 3, during a visit to the plant under construction.
Tesla will launch the Model Y crossover at its new plant in Germany. This is reported by Carscoops with reference to the head of the American firm Elon Musk. At the same time, the European-assembled crossover will differ from the electric car, which is produced in the USA.
Production of the Model Y at a facility in Germany may begin as early as July 2021. What innovations the electric crossover will receive is still unknown. According to Musk, “major changes will occur in the design of the car.” The head of Tesla promised to disclose all the details about the project on September 22, when the company is going to present the latest developments in the field of battery technology.
“We’re not just going to create a copy of Model Y, we have completely redesigned the fundamentals of the production process,” the head of the company said in an interview. Earlier, during Tesla’s Battery Day, Elon Max posted more details on the changes. “This is the first time our platform design has been redesigned, making it much easier to manufacture a European Model Y.”
Tesla’s new factory, Gigafactory 4, will be located in a green area outside Berlin. Construction of the plant began in early 2020, but in March the company was forced to recall its American staff due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the plant is expected to open next year. In addition to Model Y, the new enterprise will assemble the most affordable Tesla electric car – Model 3, as well as produce battery kits for electric cars.
