Tesla to ramp up Model 3 production in ShanghaiMay 3, 2020
By the middle of this year, the Tesla Model 3 electric car production at the assembly plant in Shanghai will increase to 4000 units per week. On Sunday, May 3, such information was shared by the local Itzai Global portal, relying on the American corporation.
By the end of last year, according to official information, up to 280 electric cars were produced at the Shanghai enterprise daily. For the first 3 months of 2020, only one model was assembled at the plant – Model 3 in the Standard Range Plus variation, and in April they launched online configurators for the Long Range and Performance modifications. In the second quarter, as noted, the automaker plans to improve assembly lines for the production of Model Y cross, which customers should begin to receive next year.
The only Tesla electric car assembly company outside of America is located in China. An agreement on the construction of a plant located in the Lingang area near Shanghai was signed in July the year before last.
The construction of the enterprise is at the final stage, the launch of the first assembly lines has already taken place. The American corporation is going to gradually increase its annual production capacity to 500,000 cars. The total investment in this project will be approximately 50 billion yuan (approximately 7.2 billion dollars).
In addition, it was recently noted that Tesla again postponed the launch of the Semi unmanned electric truck. This model debuted in 2017.
