Tesla will try to set a new Nurburgring North Loop record among four-door electric cars
A new video of the Tesla Model S training race on the Nurburgring’s Northern Loop has appeared on the Internet. The car will try to show the best time on the German track among four-door electric cars and take the record from the Porsche Taycan.
According to unofficial data, Tesla is testing an improved prototype Model S with a retuned chassis, an upgraded transmission and three electric motors on the Northern Loop. In addition, the head of the company, Elon Musk, said that the car has a seven-seater saloon. Attempts at a record race are scheduled for September 21 and 25.
The Tesla CEO announced his intention to set the North Loop record among four-door electric cars after the best time in this category was shown by the recently introduced Porsche Taycan. The German electric car covered a 20.6-kilometer track in 7 minutes and 42 seconds.
Taycan was introduced on September 4 at special events held in Canada, Germany and China. The novelty was equipped with two electric motors (on the front and rear axles), which provide four-wheel drive and are combined with a special dual-band gearbox. At the time of launch, the Porsche Taycan is presented in two top versions – Turbo and Turbo S. The units of the latter, when the Launch Control quick start function is activated in Overboost mode, give out 761 horsepower (560 kilowatts).
