Tesla on autopilot accelerated to 150 km / h while the driver sleptSeptember 18, 2020
The owner who trusted the autopilot was fined
In the Canadian province of Alberta, there was another curious incident related to the Tesla autopilot. The driver and passenger decided to sleep, and the autonomous system left without control accelerated to 150 kilometers per hour, which attracted the attention of other motorists. The incident is reported on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police website.
Law enforcement officers received information about the Tesla Model S, which rushes at a speed of more than 140 kilometers per hour, violating the speed limit. Eyewitnesses reported that both front seats were reclined as far back as possible, and the driver and passenger were probably asleep.
The police established the location of the electric car and set off in pursuit. When the police car caught up with the electric car and turned on the siren, the Model S suddenly began to accelerate and reached a speed of 150 kilometers per hour.
Law enforcement officers still managed to overtake the car and wake up the owner, who turned out to be a 20-year-old resident of British Columbia. He was given a speeding ticket and was forbidden to drive for a day.
However, after a more thorough investigation of the incident, the Canadian was accused of dangerous driving, which is punishable by law. A hearing on the case is scheduled for December this year.
At the end of August in the United States, a Tesla Model S with autopilot engaged caused an accident with two police cars. It turned out that at the moment of the collision, the Tesla driver was watching a film.
