Tesla Model Y will be assembled at a factory in ShanghaiJanuary 7, 2020
Earlier in China, the production of Tesla Model 3 sedans began.
Today it became known that another model will be put on the conveyor of the Tesla factory in Shanghai. This is a Model Y crossover. The Shanghai factory is Tesla’s only venture outside the United States. The first copies of Tesla Model 3 sedans have already left the assembly line and have been sold to plant employees. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is sure that the Model Y crossover will be more popular in the Chinese car market. The Tesla plant in China is strategic for the electric car manufacturer. The fact is that the Chinese government provides subsidies in case electric cars are produced in the country.
This approach allowed Tesla to make Model 3 16% cheaper compared to the American car market.
Probably, the same pricing policy will be in relation to Model Y. The plant in Shanghai was built in record time – construction began in early 2019, and by the end of the year the first copies began to roll off the assembly line. In the future, Tesla is going to develop its production sites – information has appeared about the possible construction of a plant in Germany.
