Tesla Model S Plaid’s power reserve drops by 68 km due to large wheels

The official range and efficiency rating for the most powerful Tesla Model S, which received the Plaid prefix in its name, has finally appeared on the EPA website, but only for the version with 21-inch Arachnid wheels.

These 21-inch wheels cost $ 4,500 or about 326 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate and significantly reduce the power reserve. Tesla estimates the difference is 67.6 km (627 km versus 560 km).

The EPA confirms the Tesla Model S Plaid’s 21-inch combined range is 348 miles (560 km).

The Plaid version with 21-inch wheels is the least efficient version and has the lowest range of any configuration. On the other hand, the Long Range version that we wrote about a few days ago, equipped with 19-inch wheels, is the most long-range.

Musk said the new Plaid has the lowest drag coefficient of any vehicle at 0.208, and that after crash tests, he “expects it to have the lowest chance of injury ever tested.” Inside, the Plaid has got three-zone climate control, which can be adjusted by swiping your finger over the visual image of the interior. It has a 17-inch portrait touchscreen display and a smaller screen for rear passengers.

Tesla claims that with a three-engine, all-wheel-drive system, Plaid will accelerate to 96 km / h in less than 2 seconds and a top speed of 322 km / h. With a power output of 1,020 hp. it can cover a quarter mile (402 meters) in 9.24 seconds with a final speed of 245 km / h.
