Tesla Model 3 electric car became the best-selling model in AprilMay 5, 2020
American brand sedans accounted for about 15% of all sales in the UK.
in April, 658 copies of the Tesla Model 3 were sold on the British market, which is about 15% of all new car sales. Due to the closure of dealerships and compliance with the national quarantine, in April only 4,321 new cars were sold, compared to 161,064 for the same period last year. Thus, the decline in sales amounted to about 97%.
This is the first time a Tesla electric sedan has appeared in the top ten UK best-selling cars. in February 2019, Model 3 became the best-selling electric car in Europe.
Probably, the relatively high level of sales of the model may be due to the fact that companies stock up their fleets, which, according to SMMT analysts, accounted for 70% of all sales in April. As a result of recent changes to the British excise tax system for vehicles, electric cars are exempt from tax, which increases their attractiveness for owners of large fleets.
This is confirmed by sales data of the Jaguar electric off-road vehicle I-Pace, which showed the second result in April – 367 cars sold. Earlier this year, the British brand entered into an agreement to supply 700 I-Paces for use by healthcare providers.
Vauxhall Corsa finished third on the list with 264 units sold. A larger crossover brand – Crossland X – took fourth place with 143 units sold.
