Tesla introduced the updated Model SJanuary 28, 2021
The car received a cruising range of 840 km and a “Charged” version of the X Plaid, the power of which exceeds 1,000 hp.
Tesla announced the updates to its aging Model S sedan on Wednesday during its fourth-quarter income statement, showcasing all the changes the electric flagship has received since its introduction in 2012.
In addition to announcing new “charged” Plaid variants that are clearly aimed at competing with the Porsche Taycan and other newcomers to the electric car segment, Tesla showed off some shots of the sedan’s revamped styling. Not much has changed on the outside, and we suspect that some of the more aggressive elements will end up being exclusive to Plaid performance.
Internally, the Model S borrows a number of solutions from new Tesla products. The touchscreen here looks a lot like the tablet in the Model 3 / Model Y. In addition, the car is equipped with an impractical-looking steering wheel of an interesting design, which, we hope, will not enter production for safety reasons.
Tesla says it has updated the powertrain, battery pack, battery module and actuators on new vehicles. The Extended Range Model S is expected to be available in March with a range of over 660 km. Meanwhile, the Plaid version with a 1020-horsepower unit will be able to drive “only” 500 km. Like the Long-Range model, it is expected to be available in March. The top model will be the Plaid + 1100 hp modification. with a cruising range of 840 km and a three-engine layout. It will be available at the end of 2021. The new Model X is expected to go on sale in April.
Following the presentation of the car, Tesla’s website reported that the Model S Plaid would begin shipping in March, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the car would be available next month (February). For now, the delivery times for the rest of the new lineup have remained the same.
