Tesla had to recall nearly 50,000 vehicles in ChinaOctober 26, 2020
The recall plunged the brand’s shares by two percent
Tesla has announced a recall of 48,442 Model S and Model X vehicles sold in China. The large share is caused by problems with the suspension, which the American company will have to modify at its own expense as directed by the PRC State Administration for Market Regulation. At the same time, Tesla itself does not recognize the presence of a defect.
According to the department, 29,193 copies of Model S and Model X imported into the country from September 17, 2013 to August 16, 2017, as well as 19,249 imported Model S, produced from September 17, 2013 to October 15, will be sent to service centers in China. 2018. All problem cars are assembled at Tesla’s American plant in Fremont, California – there are no Chinese-assembled cars among those recalled.
The reason for the recall was the front and rear suspension levers, on which cracks can form in the event of an external impact, as a result of which the lever can completely collapse. Tesla decided not to dispute the recall and agreed to replace the defective levers on all specified cars free of charge, although it considers the measure “unnecessary”, and blamed sloppy Chinese drivers for the defects in the levers.
“Tesla found no problems in either the rear or front suspension and believes driver abuse is the root cause of the problem. Reckless driving (such as hitting curbs and driving over potholes) can damage parts and cause immediate or subsequent suspension failure, ”said Elizabeth Mikityuk, Tesla’s managing regulatory advisor.
She also noted that behind the redistribution of China, such a problem was observed in 0.05 percent of Tesla sold, and in China – in 0.1 percent. However, complaints come not only from China: in early October, a Tesla Model S driver from Switzerland said that the car’s suspension collapsed on the move.
