The accident occurred because of a robot that was supposed to work at the Consumer Electronics Show – 2019 in Las Vegas as a consultant
In Las Vegas, the Tesla Model S electric car crashed into an advertising robot of the Russian company Promobot under the symbol v4. At the time of the accident at the car was activated semi-automatic control. The video with the incident was published on Promobot’s YouTube channel.
According to police, the accident occurred because of a robot that was supposed to work at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas as a consultant. However, v4 deviated from the route and drove to the street parking. As a result of an accident, the robot received serious damage and is unlikely to be repaired, the Daily Mail reports.
“Of course, we are saddened by what happened. We brought this robot here from Philadelphia to participate in CES. Now he will not be able to participate in the event and is even unlikely to be restored. We will conduct an internal investigation and find out why the robot entered the roadway, ”said Oleg Kivokurtsev, development director at Promobot.
At the time of the accident in Tesla was the driver. According to him, he decided to test the unmanned mode on a deserted and quiet street.
“There was nobody there, neither people, nor cars. I activated the unmanned mode, and this robot was on the road. I am very sorry that it happened, the robot looked very cute. I sincerely apologize to the engineers, ”he said.
This is not the first road incident involving Tesla cars. The loudest of them occurred on May 7 in the city of Williston, Florida. Then, as a result of the accident, the driver of the Tesla Model S. died. The accident occurred when a cargo truck turned left in front of a car at an intersection. The investigation affected 25 thousand models of Model S. The company explained that neither the Tesla driver nor the autopilot had noticed a white truck trailer because of the bright light, so the brake was not applied.
Tesla Motors has repeatedly warned that the Autopilot is a purely auxiliary function. The message of the company emphasizes that the driver must continue to look at the road and keep his hands on the wheel in order to immediately take control in case of danger.
