Tesla buyers will lose benefits from the US government

The American company warned buyers that in the near future the size of the tax deduction for owners of electric vehicles will decrease, and then disappear altogether.

Tesla is gradually becoming a major automaker, and this leads to the fact that buyers of electric cars of this brand will gradually lose some of the benefits. For Tesla, the US is the largest market so far, and the company has warned buyers about the imminent reduction in tax breaks.

The fact is that a tax deduction of $ 7,500 under the current rules is available only to buyers of electric vehicles of companies that sell less than 200 thousand cars. In October, Tesla sold more than 200 thousand electric vehicles, which will lead to a lower deduction for American buyers of all models: Model S, Model X and Model 3.

Tax deduction of $ 7,500 will be able to get buyers whose cars will be shipped before the end of this year. Those who receive their electric cars in the first half of next year will be able to “write off” $ 3,750 in taxes, and in the second half of 2019 the tax deduction will be only $ 1,875. All buyers of Tesla electric cars, who will receive their electric cars after the beginning of 2020, will lose their right to a tax deduction.

However, Tesla does not expect a decline in sales due to a reduction in benefits: the company brought to the market the most budget-friendly version of the Model 3, and is also preparing to produce a compact Model Y crossover, an electric Semi tractor and a roadster whose dynamic characteristics are comparable to Formula 1 cars.
