The management of Tesla in Germany signed an agreement with the federal state of Brandenburg on the purchase of a plot of 300 hectares for the construction of the Gigafactory 4 factory for 41 million euros.
It is reported by Deitsche Welle. The publication notes that the purchase of the site took place during the protests of local activists.
The factory will be built in the water protection zone of the municipality of Grüngide. It is expected that in the first half of 2021 about 150 thousand electric cars Tesla Model 3 and Model Y will go off the assembly line annually, and in the future, production volume should increase to 500 thousand cars a year.
The sale of the land took place during the protests of environmentalists. On January 18, in Grüngide, about 200 local residents took part in a protest against the “construction of an automobile factory in the forest.”
At the same time, a demonstration was also held in support of the construction of the Tesla plant. According to police, about 30 people took part in the event, and according to the organizers – 50.
