Suzuki recalls Kizashi and Grand VitaraApril 10, 2019
The cause is airbags, which are able to work when not needed, moreover, they can pose a threat to the front passenger and be deadly if there is a child seat installed.
As early as 2012, Suzuki left the US market, however, it was his duty to provide reviews there, especially those related to safety, with a service campaign for two models: the Kizashi sedan of 2010-2013. and crossover Grand Vitara 2006 – 2013 model years. The total number of cars is 31 302 units.
Problems can create a load sensor, fixing the presence of a person at the front passenger seat. The skin on which the chairs are sheathed is significantly worn out, as a result of which the sensor may be exposed to moisture and other negative factors. As a result, his work ceases to be accurate: malfunctions appear, the electronics cannot always determine whether there is a front passenger in the car. In addition, the forced shutdown of the pillow does not always guarantee that it will not work. As a result, there is a danger that the pillow will “shoot” when it is not worth doing and, on the contrary, it does not work at the right moment. It is noted that this defect concerns only the front passenger cushion, it does not apply to the driver’s one.
The company does not report cases where this malfunction would cause injuries, but the US National Highway Traffic Safety Bureau (NHTSA), which obliged Suzuki Motor to conduct a review, confirms repeatedly recorded complaints about the operation of the SRS Airbag system.
So far, there is no evidence that a similar review will be conducted in other markets.
