Subcompact Mitsubishi Mirage will become a crossover?July 27, 2018
Apparently in the leadership of the Japanese car brand Mitsubishi decided that it was time to change the concept of the model Mirage. If before it was a subcompact car, then it looks like it will soon become a crossover.
According to recent information, the Japanese brand Mitsubishi is not going to “resurrect” the name Eclipse for its new crossover. Note that this is a fairly familiar name, in the period from 1989 to 2011 it belonged to a sports coupe. According to the journalists of the foreign publication Response, the new crossover of the legendary manufacturer can get a completely different name.
According to rumors, the name Mirage, under which the compact hatchback is now sold, may become the name under which the new crossover of the Japanese automaker will be sold.
Does this mean that the company’s small hatchback that is sold in the US automotive market will completely disappear? So far, nothing is known about this. All the same sources say that under the name Mirage, the company can simultaneously sell both hatchback and crossover Mirage Cross.
We want to note that this new statement by foreign profile media contradicts other data, according to which, Mitsubishi Mirage will remain a small hatchback. After the Japanese brand Mitsubishi joined the alliance Renault-Nissan began to go rumors that the next generation Mirage will be based on the French subcompact Renault Clio. Now it is reported that the new Mitsubishi Mirage can be analogous to the Nissan Juke crossover.
Whatever happens to the Mirage model, the car that gets this name will most likely be equipped with a 3-cylinder turbo engine. Insiders say that the power of this engine will be equal to 94 horsepower. According to rumors, it is also possible the appearance of a 1.5-liter turbodiesel, which will work in tandem with an electric motor.
There were rumors about the possible use of the name Lancer for a new crossover. So, now the prospective names for the new Japanese crossover are Mirage or Lancer.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi released a special version of the previous generation model, the novelty was called Pajero Sport Splash.
