Subaru unveils new sport buggy Crosstrek Desert Racer for racingMay 31, 2019
The Grabowski Brothers Racing team is preparing for the participation of the famous Baja 500 races in the category Class 5 Unlimited. A feature of the buggy was the motor – the firm Boxer from Subaru.
Interestingly, the sporty buggy got the name of the compact Subaru Crosstrek Desert Racer crossover. This is a model known to us, which we propose under the name XV, but from the common they have only the name. The car was built on a completely new platform in collaboration with the workshop Crawford Performance.
As a power unit, an opposed atmospheric engine of 2.5 liters is used, capable of developing up to 304 horsepower. Given the low weight of the buggy – power may be excessive. In addition, the car is painted in the brand livery of Subaru rally – a combination of blue and gold.
According to experts, the new project will be another chance for Subaru to get out of the “comfort zone” of rally competitions, and Crawford Performance will be able to show its capabilities in finalizing boxing engines.
Recall that the Baja 500 is the longest off-road race on the territory of America. The route is laid in many harsh areas, including the desert in the state of Nevada. The route itself is laid between the cities of Las Vegas and Reno.
Meanwhile, Subaru introduced the “charged” wagon Levorg STI Sport. Sales will begin next month.
