Subaru has registered the product name WRX STI S209 for the USADecember 18, 2018
Previous models of the WRX STI S Series were always quite unusual – they differed in markedly increased performance. Soon, similar versions of the Japanese legend will be available for the US car market.
On December 12, 2018, Subaru representatives filed an application with the US Patent Office to register the S209 trademark. Apparently, in the near future, sales of an even more powerful version of the WRX STI model may start on the automotive market in this country.
The application for registration of a new product name states that Subaru will use the S209 to designate “cars and design elements for them”, as well as “car mats”.
In general, the Japanese automaker is positioning its S-series cars as the final versions of its STI models. For example, a modification of S206, which was released back in 2011, could boast balanced in weight pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, turbocharger with ball bearing and an improved engine control unit. Installing the latter allowed the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine to develop a power of 316 horsepower (431 Nm of torque).
In addition, the car received high-performance suspension elements from Bilstein, a fully carbon roof and black wheels from BBS. Version S207 appeared in 2015 and S208 – in 2017 continued, what is called “keep the bar”. In the modification of the S208 STI, Subaru engineers managed to bring the engine power up to 325 hp. (432 Nm).
In high-performance versions of the S-family has always been a limited edition – only 300 copies of the Subaru WRX STI in the performance of the S206 and 450 units of the S208 version were released.
