Subaru Crosstrek will receive a new engine
May 11, 2020One of the most popular models of the Japanese automaker is likely to acquire a more powerful engine.
A new option for the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek model year will be the 2.5-liter engine currently found in the Subaru Outback, Legacy and Forester. It is reported that the total power will increase to 182 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque, which is 30 hp. and 42 Nm more than the standard 2.0-liter unit Crosstrek currently uses. The hybrid version of the Crosstrek has a power of 148 hp. and 182 Nm, which, again, is relatively low, but offers the added benefit of superior fuel economy.
According to a new rating published by the EPA, we can officially confirm not only the Crosstrek 2.5 of 2021, but also its very impressive fuel economy. Not only are CVTs nearly the same ratings as 2.0, but the 2.5 will be faster and more fun to drive. Also, for 2.5, CVT seems to be the only choice.
The specific details of the future Crosstrek 2.5, such as prices, are still unknown, but the new engine will only be offered in more expensive limited and new sports trim levels. Meanwhile, 2.0 will be available for basic and premium trim levels. Although the updated Subaru Crosstrek 2.5 will have a higher price, the fact that it is more powerful and almost as economical as the base model is still a double victory.
