Stout Scarab or the very first minivan in historyJune 17, 2019
In the 30s of the last century, the Stout Motor Car Company appeared in Detroit (USA). Engineers have developed the world’s first minivan, which was given the name Scarab.
What are minivans and what are they for? These are large family cars, the main task of which is to transport a large (within one family) number of people. Now different automakers can offer a great variety of various models of these vehicles. Models differ from each other in price and functionality.
Do you know where the first minivan was created? What company of engineers did this brilliant idea come to mind?
The company is called Stout Motor Car Company, it was created in the 30s of the last century. Actually, the first minivan is named Stout Scarab. This car brand was located in Detroit (USA), which at that time was a fairly large industrial center.
It is worth noting that another feature of this car is a body made of fiberglass. Compared to all other vehicles of the United States of that era, the “grandfather” of all modern minivans was distinguished by its low floor and a slightly unusual appearance. Stout Scarab was equipped with a powerful V8 manufactured by Ford, which was located at the rear of the machine.
Sales of the minivan began in 1932, and in 1935, Stout introduced an updated version of Scarab. The car could be purchased for $ 5,000.
