Startup Rivian will release a “crazy” hatchback with a huge clearanceDecember 5, 2018
The next model of the American startup Rivian will be a “crazy” car with a short base, made in the spirit of rally. As well as other cars Rivian novelty will have “unique” characteristics and will receive an impressive ground clearance.
The Auto Express edition suggests that it will be a hatchback, although the head of the Rivian Robert Scaring does not specify the form factor: “Our third model will have a shorter base (than the R1S SUV or R1T pickup), it will be an interpretation of a rally car with a huge ground clearance.” . The dynamic characteristics of the hatchback are likely to be at its height, because rally with hybrid installations have already learned how to accelerate to 96 kilometers per hour in two seconds.
Rivian is also going to sell its chassis-skateboards to other manufacturers, and a number of automotive and non-automotive companies have already expressed interest. According to Scarind, a pickup truck and a van can be built on their platform, which will also attract large retail chains developing their own courier services.
Rivian plans to produce its own electric cars in small batches, and sell directly, using dealers only where direct sales are prohibited. The plans are to make the models global and bring them to the market not only in North America, but also in China, Europe, Australia, and South Africa.
At the last Los Angeles auto show, the Rivian showed the first two models: the R1T pickup and the R1S seven-seater SUV. The pickup received an electric power plant with a capacity of 760 horsepower and 1120 Nm of torque. Up to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour), it can accelerate in three seconds. The most powerful SUV is 864 power and 660 kilometers of run on a single charge.
