SSC introduced the 1750-hp hypercar TuataraFebruary 8, 2020
The new serial hypercar will be released in a limited edition of only 100 copies.
The path to SSC Tuatara production turned out to be very long and thorny. First announced almost ten years ago, the hypercar was constantly delayed and could not fall into the hands of the first customers. Everything changed last year when the SSC – Shelby SuperCars – showed the first production car. Now at the Philadelphia Motor Show debuted the first of Tuatara’s 100 production hypercars.
Despite the fact that it took Tuatara time to become a reality, many of its technical characteristics have long been declassified. The Tuatars’ “heart” is a 5.9-liter turbocharged V8 that produces 1,750 horsepower on E85 bioethanol and 1,350 horsepower on ordinary gasoline.
Torque is transmitted through the CIMA robotic 7-speed gearbox, capable of shifting gears in less than 100 milliseconds. With a dry weight of 1247 kg and a drag coefficient of 0.279, it should be extremely fast. SSC claims that Tuatara can reach 483 km / h.
Tuatara uses carbon fiber everywhere. Jason Castriota, who worked on the design for Ferrari and Maserati, collaborated with SSC in the design and aerodynamics of the hypercar. Two-way doors with push-button control and hydraulic drive have the same wild design as the other elements of the car.
Inside, there are all amenities such as high-quality sound, an infotainment system with a touch screen, climate control, power windows and a telescopic steering wheel. The touch screen also provides access to driving modes, car diagnostics, entertainment and much more. The shift paddles are hidden directly behind the wheel, which has a gear shift indicator. SSC says someone up to two meters tall can fit comfortably inside even with a racing helmet.
SSC will build a total of 100 Tuatara hypercars. And while prices are not announced, we recall that back in 2013, the company estimated the model at $ 1.3 million. This is an important car for the British company and a worthy successor to the SSC Ultimate Aero, which held the title of Guinness champion until the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport overthrew it.
