Sport car Ariel Atom completely changed. From the old car there are three parts leftJuly 11, 2018
The company Ariel introduced the Atom sports car of the fourth generation. The public debut of the car will take place next weekend at the Festival of Speed in British Goodwood.
The fourth generation Atom is a completely new car. With the predecessor, it is related only three parts: the brake and clutch pedals, as well as the fuel filler cap.
The overall design of the model, despite the new carbon body panels, remained almost the same as the previous generation sports car. Aerodynamic characteristics are significantly improved (but exact figures are not given in the company). Also, the clamping force was increased, the air flow to the radiator and intercooler was improved.
Rigidity of the construction increased by 15 percent, and the other chassis allowed to increase the free space in the cabin and install a larger fuel tank (now it is 40-liter). He now allows the car to pass without refueling 482 kilometers.
The rear-wheel drive sports car is equipped with a two-liter turbo engine from the latest hot-hatch Honda Civic Type R, for which Ariel has prepared its own control program. The unit produces 320 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission and a rear differential of increased friction.
From zero to 96 kilometers per hour the new Atom accelerates in 2.8 seconds, and 160 kilometers per hour the car is gaining in 6.8 seconds. The maximum speed is 261 kilometers per hour.
For the sports car, the suspension was also modernized. The basic version is offered with shock absorbers Bilstein, and for a surcharge – Öhlins. As an option, carbon wheels are available, which weigh 50 percent less than standard ones-16 inches in front and 17 inches in the rear.
In total, it is planned to collect 100 Atoms per year. The price is from 39,975 pounds sterling.
