California Special returns with a new limited-edition design package for 2019 Mustang GT that commemorates visual cues of the 1968 original while celebrating modern Mustang performance and style

The company Ford introduced a limited series of coupes and convertibles Mustang GT, called the California Special. The novelty is released in memory of the model of the 1968 model and differs from the basic machines with unique stylistic solutions.

The original Mustang California Special (GT / CS) of 1968, inspired by the prototype of Shelby GT, featured a darkened radiator grille, fog lights, a racing strip along the body, side air intakes, a Shelby-style spoiler, swivel bonnet locks and modified headlights.

Production lasted only five and a half months. During this time, Ford produced 4,118 cars.

Modern cars received strips on the sides of the body, side air intakes, a splitter, a darkened grille and special two-color wheels. The seats of the Mustang are trimmed with black leather and suede with a red stitch.

In addition to the new series, Ford announced the expansion of personalization options and adding to the palette models of historical colors: Velocity Blue, Need for Green and Dark Highland Green. The list of equipment of the Mustang GT was supplemented with the engine speed matching function for machines with manual transmission (when changing stages, the engine is tuned to the desired gear), as well as a Bang & Olufsen audio system with a 10-channel 1000-watt amplifier and 12 speakers.

The previous version of the California Special, built on the basis of machines in 2016, was equipped with a 5.0-liter Coyote family engine, the output of which was 459 hp, and a six-speed manual transmission. From standard cars, the GT / CS was distinguished by the trimmed seats with a combination of leather and suede, as well as a front strut with the special version emblem.
