Smart switches to all-electric power plantsNovember 20, 2018
While many automakers are only now launching their first electric models to the market, the Daimler-owned Smart brand began selling its first electric models back in 2009, and since then has only been expanding its range – now all models of the brand are available in electric versions.
Not surprisingly, Smart will eventually become one of the first automakers to completely abandon internal combustion engines. Judging by the available information, the latest Smart gasoline will be implemented until March 31, 2019.
An advertisement appeared on the company’s sales website that everyone should have time to order the Smart model from the internal combustion engine until March 31, 2019, since from 2020 Smart will drive exclusively on electric power plants. And we are talking about both the ForTwo model and the ForFour model.
Interestingly, the company’s spokeswoman said it could not confirm the exact date of the phase-out of gasoline engines. Previously, Smart had planned to stop producing models with gasoline engines at the end of May 2019, but the company representative also declined to comment on this information.
