Smart is preparing to launch its first crossoverApril 22, 2020
It is expected that the first production cars will begin to be produced in two years.
Smart, which is part of the German concern Daimler, is going to launch its first crossover. Such information appeared on Wednesday, April 22. Smart is known for models that belong to the most compact class of cars. Recently, however, demand for them around the world has been steadily falling, which has forced the brand to change its profile. It is expected that the company will launch the production of compact crossovers, and the first of them will appear in 2022. The authoritative Italian edition Motori Online reported that the length of the novelty will reach 4 meters – this is almost 1.5 meters longer than that of Smart ForTwo.
After that, information immediately appeared that the novelty could appear in the car market of India, where crossovers with a length of about 4 meters are very popular. True, budget models are mainly supplied to India, to which Smart is still very difficult to attribute. To date, the car has no name yet.
The platform of the new product will be developed by specialists of the Geely brand, which now owns 50% of Smart.
After the start of cooperation with Geely, it became known that the first Smart cars will be completely electric. The capacity of the Smart Cross battery will be 78 kW / h, which will allow you to overcome 400 km of track on a single charge. About the availability of all-wheel drive system is still unknown.
