Smart introduced the updated Smart EQ 2020 ForTwo and ForFourSeptember 5, 2019
The new items, which will be publicly displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in a few days, have received a revised design that reminds us of the ForEase and ForEase + Concept models.
The cars were equipped with a new, larger grille. It is surrounded by new LED PTFs and a modified bumper with vertical holes at the outer edges. Additional changes are limited, but the cars have updated taillights with a rhombic design, which consists of “hundreds of elaborate” LEDs.
The salon turned out to be pretty much the same, but there are a few notable changes. First of all, there is a new infotainment system with an 8-inch screen that promises a “seamless interaction” with the driver’s smartphone. The multimedia complex is also more intuitive and easy to use.
Designers also created a new center console, which has a large storage compartment. Smart says it’s big enough to accommodate modern smartphones, as well as two coffee cups thanks to a removable holder.
The changes are more positive, but the company was not able to solve the main problem – the power plant. It remains the same and consists of a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 17.6 kW / h, which feeds an electric motor with a capacity of 80 hp and a torque of 160 Nm.
Smart did not publish detailed specifications, but confirmed that the power reserve of the new items is no more than 159 km. The company hastened to indicate that in Germany the range is “several times greater than the average person travels per day.” There is an additional built-in 22 kW charger with a quick charge function that allows you to charge the battery from 10% to 80% in less than 40 minutes. Without fast charging, the process takes significantly longer.
