Skoda’s cheapest crossover will be turned into a coupeMay 31, 2019
The premiere of the forerunner of the new compact crossover of the Czech brand may be in June. The main market for the model will be China.
A couple of sketches of the concept Vision GT “heaven” division of the company Skoda showed back in April at the Shanghai Motor Show. Now there are additional pictures. According to Chinese media profiles, a public display of the car will be held in early June. In the status of a prototype, the Vision GT will not linger long – this year it will be reincarnated into a production model that, according to preliminary data, will be positioned as a coupe-like version of the Kamiq SUV.
Recall in the range of Skoda today two Kamiq. One is for China, in fact, it has been sold there since 2018. The second SUV is for Europe, it is still preparing to enter the market. Crossovers have only a name. So, the Chinese version is built on the old PQ25 platform, it has a design without frills and rather modest equipment. European Skoda Kamiq is based on the MQB platform, he received a two-tier head optics and modern driver assistance systems.
Once the concept of the Vision GT is presented in the PRC, then it is logical that the local Kamiq will be taken as the basis for a serial SUV based on its motives. However, the Chinese media believe that the crossover with a coupe body will be created on the MQB platform. The gasoline turbo four 1.4 and 2.0 are tipped to the new product, while their return is not called. Also, it is not yet known whether the coupe will have four-wheel drive.
In China, the standard Skoda Kamiq is offered with no alternative engine 1.5 MPI (110 hp), while the gamma of the European model includes a gasoline 3-liter turbo 1.0 TSI (95 or 115 hp) and a turbo four TSI (1.5 hp), four 1.6 TDI diesel engine (115 hp). But the drive for both crosses only front.
In the Chinese market, Kamiq is the cheapest SUV brand, its price starts from 105,900 yuan. In Europe, the Kamiq price list has not yet been published, but even there it will serve as an entry level crossover.
Meanwhile, in China, the Skoda model range already has a coupe-like SUV – Kodiaq GT. Outside this country, the model is not going to withdraw.
