Skoda showed the entire Octavia model familyJuly 6, 2020
Skoda completes the formation of the Octavia family and shared all the details about the features of the fourth generation of the bestseller.
Four months after the debut of the Skoda Octavia RS iV with a hybrid powerplant, the company talked about all the models. The novelty is available in two body styles – liftback and station wagon. In turn, the station wagon can be in the usual version, or an “off-road” Scout.
The fourth generation of the Octavia is offered with engines running on three types of fuel: gasoline, diesel and compressed natural gas. In addition, the car may have a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The first Octavia to receive a plug-in hybrid powerplant was the sports version of the Octavia RS iV. It is equipped with a 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline engine, an electric motor and batteries, which provides an electric range of up to 60 km through the WLTP cycle. The total power of such a power unit reaches 180 kW (245 hp). The new gasoline version of the Octavia RS with a 2.0 TSI engine develops similar power. The third alternative is the RS version with a 2.0 TDI diesel engine, which has in its arsenal a herd of 200 “horses”. By the way, this version can be equipped with an all-wheel drive transmission as an option.
Outwardly, it is not difficult to distinguish the RS version thanks to the black color of the radiator lining, its own aerodynamic body kit with other bumpers, additional spoilers and a rear diffuser, as well as the original design of 18- or 19-inch (optional) wheels.
Another interesting modification is the “off-road” Octavia Scout, which is available exclusively with a station wagon. For the first time, a version with front-wheel drive transmission will be available for the novelty. For all-wheel drive modifications, a 2.0 TDI turbo diesel (115 hp) and a 1.5 TSI petrol turbo engine (150 hp) are offered. Both options are equipped with a 6-speed “memkhanika”. You can also choose a single-drive version 1.5 TSI e-TEC with a “soft” hybrid powertrain version and a 7-speed robotic gearbox DSG. More powerful all-wheel drive modifications with engines 2.0 TSI (190 hp), 2.0 TDI (150 hp) and 2.0 TDI (200 hp) are equipped with a 7-speed “robot” DSG.
The Scout version differs from conventional station wagons by a protective body kit, increased by 15 mm ground clearance and additional “off-road” elements. Inside, wear-resistant ThermoFlux seat upholstery materials, aluminum pedals and contrasting brown stitching are used.
Octavia Mild Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid
In addition to the sports version of the RS iV, the Octavia iV can also be equipped with a hybrid powertrain. It includes a 1.4 TSI gasoline engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. The total power of such a power plant reaches 204 hp, and the battery is enough to overcome on electric traction up to 60 km.
Fourth-generation Octavia customers can purchase an electrified version of e-TEC. It is equipped with an auxiliary electric motor and an onboard electrical system of 48 volts. The electric motor helps the engine to save up to 0.4 liters of fuel per km of run, and also acts as a starter-generator. The e-TEC version is available in two power options – with a 1.0 TSI (110 hp) and 1.5 TSI (150 hp) engine. In both cases, the car is equipped with a 7-speed DSG robotic gearbox.
Another alternative for reducing harmful air emissions is the use of a compressed natural gas (CNG) power plant. The Octavia G-TEC version is equipped with a 1.5 TSI gasoline engine (130 hp) that can run on gas. This reduces harmful emissions by about 25% compared to gasoline. A cylinder of 17.33 kg of compressed gas allows you to cover a distance of up to 500 km. The gas tank holds 9 liters. Thus, the total mileage can reach 700 km. Switching between tanks is automatic.
Octavia offers a wide range of traditional internal combustion engines. The range of TSI petrol turbo engines includes the base 1.0 TSI (110 hp), 1.5 TSI (150 hp) and the top 2.0 TSI (190 hp). The diesel range is represented by 2.0 TDI Evo versions, available in three power options – 115, 150 and 190 hp.
