Skoda showed the design of the new Rapid and charged modelsAugust 30, 2018
The Czech manufacturer announced the premiere of a new Skoda Rapid concept, releasing a teaser of new items.
Conceptual Skoda Vision RS will be presented in the framework of the Paris Motor Show, which will be held in October this year. The teaser depicts a compact hatchback, which in the standard version will replace the current Skoda Rapid Spaceback. In addition, the conceptual hatch is intended to demonstrate the features of future “charged” RS models of the brand.
The front part of the prototype Vision RS is decorated in a similar with the updated Fabia style, while the profile and the stern are reminiscent of the latest Skoda crossovers. There are no details on the new product, except for the dimensions that significantly exceed the current Rapid Spaceback: length – 4,356 mm (+52 mm), width – 1,810 mm (+104 mm), height – 1,431 mm (-28 mm) and the size of the wheelbase is 2,650 mm (+48 mm). Thus, the new hatch in its size becomes comparable to the European hatchback class C +.
What is under the hood of the Vision RS is unknown, and the power scale of the production model, which will be based on the MQB platform, is expected to include turbo engines TSI in volume of 1.0 and 1.5 liters and, probably, a 1.6-liter turbodiesel. It is assumed that the output of the serial model will take place in a year and a half.
Most likely, the new hatchback will receive a new name, and under the name Rapid will continue to sell liftback in emerging markets and it will have a different development concept.
One of the closest serial novelties of the Czech brand will be the coupe-like modification of the flagship Skoda Kodiaq, which will acquire the prefix GT in the title.
