Skoda prepares to start production of electric carsNovember 20, 2017
The first fully electric model of Skoda will be manufactured in the Czech Republic.
Production of an electric car of the Czech brand will begin in 2020 at the plant in Mlada Boleslav, the company said. Details on the model are not provided, Skoda only noted that the brand demonstrated its vision of “electric cars of the future” with the example of the conceptual cross-coupe Vision E, presented earlier in China and Germany. It is possible that the “first-born” of the electric line of Skoda will become the all-terrain vehicle. In total, by 2025 the brand plans to offer its customers at least five electric models in various segments.
By the way, before launching the electric car, Skoda intends to launch a rechargeable hybrid – it will be the flagship Superb, the production of such a modification will start in 2019 at the factory in Kvasiny. In addition, in 2019 Skoda will start the production of components for hybrid plants of various models of the Volkswagen concern.
“In the future, Skoda will produce electric vehicles. Already in 2025, we plan to offer our customers five fully electric models in different segments. We are very pleased that the first electric car Skoda will be produced in the Czech Republic. This decision underscores the confidence of the Volkswagen Group in our brand and its employees. The start of the production of electric cars will be a new milestone in the history of not only Skoda, but the industry of the whole country, “commented Bernhard Mayer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Skoda.
Recall, the first display of the coupe-like crossover Vision E was held at the motor show in Shanghai. In September, the concept was brought to the Frankfurt Motor Show, slightly updating the exterior design. The prototype is equipped with two electric motors, the total output is 306 hp, on one charge Skoda Vision E can overcome about 500 km.
