Skoda Auto’s facilities in Mlada Boleslav and Vrchlabí produce three different types of transmissions for the Volkswagen Group. Manufacturing is continuously optimized, automated and digitized in accordance with Industry 4.0 Principles.
“Today we have achieved an impressive 13 million production mark of the current generation of transmissions. This production milestone is the result of the high level of knowledge and strong team spirit of our team. Thanks to these factors, the production of Skoda Auto components is constantly gaining strategic importance and has become a key element of the group’s inter-brand production network, ”said Michael Oeleklaus, Skoda Board Member for Production and Logistics.
Skoda Auto currently produces a total of three types of gearboxes, which are used in vehicles from Skoda and other Volkswagen Group brands. At its main plant in Mlada Boleslav, the Czech brand has been producing the MQ200 5-speed gearbox for petrol engines of 1.0 to 1.6 liters since 2000. In 2011, the production of the 6-speed MQ200 transmission was also launched. More than 7,590,000 copies of this transmission have been produced since production began in 2000. The daily production volume is currently 2,000 gearboxes.
The MQ100 / SQ100 transmissions, produced in Mlada Boleslav since 2011, were originally designed for the “New Small Family” models from the Volkswagen Group and were originally installed on Skoda Citigo, VW up! and Seat Mii. Now such a gearbox is used exclusively in the Skoda Fabia, since other models have been electrified, as well as in other small cars of the Volkswagen Group with a 1.0-liter gasoline engine. In August 2020, the 2 millionth MQ100 / SQ100 transmission left the Mlada Boleslav plant.
Since 2012, Skoda has also produced the DQ200 7-speed automatic direct-shift gearbox (DSG) at the Vrchlabí component plant. The enterprise produces 2300 units per day, which has made it possible to assemble 3.3 million copies of the DQ200 to date. This transmission is also fitted to Skoda and the Group’s cars.
In 2019 alone, Skoda Auto built around 1,125,200 gearboxes. The average daily production of all transmissions was around 4,800 units.
