Skoda introduced its new compact crossover called Kamiq. The public debut of the car will take place at the Geneva Motor Show, which will open in March 2019. In the model range of the Czech brand, the novelty will take place below Karoq and Kodiaq. The exact start date of the start of sales is still unknown.
The car is built on the MQB platform. This chassis is already the basis of a number of compact and mid-size cars: from the new Volkswagen Polo to the crossover Skoda Kodiaq. The wheelbase of the Kamiq is 2651 millimeters. The length of the machine is 4241 mm, width – 1793 mm, and height – 1531 mm.
The design of the model resembles the Vision X concept. The crossover has a wide grille, spoiler, C-shaped lights, a diffuser, as well as LED headlights with daytime running lights located in the upper part and integrated dynamic direction indicators. The car has a high ground clearance (37 mm more than the Scala hatchback) and a powerful bonnet line. The choice of customers will offer wheels with a diameter of 16 to 18 inches.
Inside the crossover, a 10.25-inch virtual cockpit will be installed under the instruments and the touch-screen display of the infotainment system with a diagonal from 6.5 to 9.2 inches. The company said that this is one of the largest screens offered in this segment. Kamiq has a surface with a texture imitating crystal structures, and various upholstery options, including a new microfiber coating. Such interior decoration will be typical for all future models of the Czech brand. The luggage compartment is 400 liters. When folded rear seats, this figure grows to 1395 liters. The machine is offered with heated steering wheel, windshield, as well as all seats.
The 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder petrol engine entered the engine range. Capacity of the unit is 95 liters. with. and 175 Nm of torque. The engine works with a five-speed manual gearbox. Also, customers will be offered the same engine, but with a return of 115 liters. with. and 200 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox. Optionally offered seven-speed robotized gearbox.
Top Kamiq versions will be offered with a 1.5-liter TSI gasoline engine. Capacity of the unit is 150 liters. with. and 250 Nm of torque. To save fuel, the driver is available Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), which automatically shuts off two cylinders with a small load. This engine is combined with a six-speed maniual or a seven-speed robotized gearbox DSG. All three gasoline engines are equipped with a diesel particulate filter.
In addition, the crossover can be equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine of 1.6 liters. The output of the unit is 115 liters. with. and 250 Nm of torque. A gas version of the Kamiq with a 1.0-liter G-Tec engine (90 hp.) And a six-speed manual transmission will also be available.
For a fee, the novelty can be equipped with an additional bottom protection. Also, customers will be offered a sports suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers. The driver is available adaptive cruise control, rear-view camera, parking assistance system, the system in the lane, emergency braking function, pedestrian recognition system and fatigue control function. In addition, the car received a Wi-Fi access point and a navigation system that is updated “over the air”.
