Skoda improved all-wheel drive turbo FabiaFebruary 18, 2019
Rally hatchback Skoda Fabia R5 will try on new looks and more powerful engine
At the Geneva Motor Show unit Skoda Motorsport will present an updated version of the rally hatchback Fabia R5. The all-wheel drive will receive not only a changed appearance, but also a more powerful engine.
The appearance of the rally all-wheel drive was brought into line with the appearance of the serial Fabia, which underwent a restyling last year. Fabia R5 received narrower headlights with LED running lights and a modified front bumper with a larger grille.
The update is not limited to external changes – a small technical upgrade has been made. For example, the 1.6 turbo engine was refined with direct injection: its power was slightly increased, the response to pressing the gas pedal was improved. This unit is based on the serial engine 1.8 family EA888. Its power is about 300 horsepower.
Among other features of the car is the all-wheel drive transmission of the British company Xtrac without a center differential and McPherson suspension, which use unified levers in front and rear, as well as powerful tubular subframes.
The updated Fabia R5 will receive a certification of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) in the second quarter of 2019, after which it will be possible to compete in it. Skoda Fabia R5 is one of the most commercially successful cars of the R5 class: since its introduction in 2015, 252 cars have been built. The cost of a new car is about 200 thousand euros.
