The Czech automaker detailed the brand’s ambitious plans to launch new products, including a more affordable electric vehicle, which will be the second all-electric model after Enyaq.

Skoda will unveil the next generation of the Fabia hatchback in May. The Czech brand is also working on a station wagon version of the model. The current Fabia is the latest of the VW Group’s compact models to migrate to the more modern MQB A0 platform, which is used in all cars of the auto giant – from the current Polo to the SEAT Arona and Audi A1.

Speaking at Skoda’s annual press conference, CEO Thomas Schafer said the new Fabia was one of the brand’s most exciting new additions in 2021. Schafer also announced that the current Fabia, sold with the Combi in mainland Europe, will receive a successor. The Fabia-based station wagon will go on sale in 2023 and will be built at Skoda’s Kvasiny plant as part of a development plan that also includes the next generation Superb.

Schafer said work on a successor to Skoda’s flagship hatchback has already begun and that it is being developed alongside the next generation VW Passat. Skoda plans to reschedule production of the Superb with a new version of the model coming out in 2023.

According to Schafer, Skoda “wants to be part” of the VW Group’s project to create ultra-compact electric vehicles on a new platform called MEB Entry.

“At the moment, this is the topic of the VW Group. If the Group is working on this, we want to be a part of it, ”said the top manager. “We can see that the Skoda brand is currently playing a major role in this segment, at least with ICE vehicles.”

Schafer, meanwhile, confirmed that the company’s next full-size MEB model will be more affordable than the recently unveiled Enyaq. However, he did not say what kind of car it would be. This could mean that Skoda’s second line of electric vehicles will essentially be a scaled-down version of the Enyaq in the body of a crossover.
