Daimler organized a special event to unveil its strategy for the electrification of its truck range. Here, the German corporation showed a prototype of the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 hydrogen truck.
The concept has a gross weight of 40 tons and a carrying capacity of 25 tons, as well as two tanks for liquid hydrogen with a capacity of 40 kg each.
The rototype also has a 300 kW fuel cell system and a battery that can temporarily provide an additional 400 kW of power. The battery has a capacity of 70 kW / h and is designed to “provide situational energy support to the fuel cell, for example, at peak loads or when driving uphill with full weight.”
The pre-production version of the Mercedes-Benz truck will be equipped with two electric motors, each of which will develop 443 hp. and 2071 Nm of torque. As for the range of the hydrogen model, it will be approximately 1000 km.
The German company notes that although the GenH2 is technically a prototype, its serial modification will be released. Speaking about the timing of the appearance of the new product, Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that test customer transportation should start as early as 2023, and the serial production of the truck will begin no earlier than 2025.
In addition, it was recently noted that spy photos of a restyled Mercedes-Benz G-Class G500 4×4 were circulated on the Internet. It should be emphasized that at present the date of the debut of the new items of the German brand remains unknown.
