Showcased the new Volkswagen Golf RNovember 4, 2020
Today the official debut of the updated “charged” hatchback Volkswagen Golf R took place.
The novelty is the most powerful Golf R ever built. So, the model is equipped with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a capacity of 315 hp. (420 Nm). Such a motor allows the car to accelerate to 96 km / h in 4.7 seconds and accelerate to a maximum of 250 km / h. As a transmission, a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional 7-speed DSG gearbox are offered. In turn, the updated model has become more powerful than its predecessor by 27 hp.
The new Golf R has 4Motion all-wheel drive as standard, but this system is slightly different from that of previous generations. There is a rear differential that distributes power differently between the axles, with the ability to transfer up to 100% of the torque to one of them using the special Drift Mode function, which is one of two special drive modes, adjustable in Race mode, and joins the standard options drives such as Sport, Comfort and Individual.
The specialists also completely re-tuned the Golf R’s front strut and multi-link rear suspension, reducing the ground clearance by 20 mm compared to its predecessor. Stiffer springs and new geometry make the new product 10% stiffer than the previous generation model. Speaking of visual changes, the updated hot hatch has a new front bumper with an original splitter, R-style air intakes and high-gloss black elements, and 19-inch alloy wheels with summer tires.
As for the interior of the novelty, a 10-inch touchscreen, a virtual instrument panel and touch controllers on the steering wheel appeared here, which replaced the traditional analog buttons. There’s even a dedicated “R” button on the steering wheel that provides easy access to Race mode. Blue accents and R logos adorn the seats, dashboard and steering wheel, while Nappa leather upholstery is available as an option for this model for the first time.
In the US, sales of the refreshed VW Golf R are set to start next year. The cost of the new model has not yet been disclosed, while the 2019 model year hatchback starts at $ 40,395
In addition, it was recently noted that the Volkswagen handed over more than 14 thousand copies of ID.3 to customers. It should be emphasized that even less than half of the total number of preorders received their own cars.
