The Spanish brand Cupra will present in Switzerland its first autonomous model – a serial cross with the Formentor sports character. The start of sales of new items is planned for the second half of the year.

Cupra, recently created by SEAT, made an important announcement. And now we are not talking about high-speed Leon models. The young brand is going to bring its first autonomous car, the Cupra Formentor, to the March auto show in Geneva. Concept electrocross debuted a year ago. According to the forecasts of auto experts, the serial version of the SUV will not differ much from this show car. This was also hinted at by spy photos of the latest prototypes ready for the series.

Judging by these pictures, the manufacturer decided to borrow most of the design ideas for the serial SUV.

The technical stuffing of new items is kept secret. It is possible that Formentor will receive the same hybrid as the electrified Leon. It includes 1.4 TSI and an electric engine, and the total return reaches 242 hp. The same hybrid Leon on one electric traction can travel about 60 kilometers. Formentor, apparently, will lose a little in range due to more weight. Provided that they have the same battery.

Whether the crossover will be available only as a hybrid, or whether traditional ICE will also be included in its arsenal, unfortunately, has not yet been reported. The Formentor engine range can “spy” on the new Cupra Leon. This is a two-liter turbo engine with 241 or 295 hp. for front-wheel drive modifications and a 306-horsepower engine for versions with all-wheel drive.
