The manufacturer showed what will happen to the car body due to bullets
This week, BMW unveiled an armored version of the X5 SUV that withstands shots from a Kalashnikov assault rifle. In support of his words, the manufacturer published photos of the car after the shelling.
Photos published portal BMW Blog. The armored SUV was shot about three hundred times. Judging by the frames, the car is really not afraid of such damage – the bullets left small dents on the body and cracks in the windows, but not a single through hole on the X5.
The German automaker introduced an armored version of the X5 SUV the day before. He received factory class armor VR6, which protects the interior not only from firing from a Kalashnikov assault rifle, but also from a hand grenade explosion.
Customers can also install additional protection that can withstand the attack of a drone with a 200-gram bomb or an explosive bomb with a capacity of 15 kilograms of TNT.
The armored SUV was equipped with conventional springs instead of air suspension for greater reliability, tires that allow you to continue driving after breaking through, and a self-tightening fuel tank. The glass thickness reaches 33 millimeters and in the basic configuration they do not open – only the driver can open his window by 10 centimeters.
They decided to keep the mass of the car secret, but it can be assumed that this figure increased by about a ton. In terms of dynamics, the car lost 1.6 seconds in acceleration from standstill to 100 kilometers per hour.
