Sedan Chevrolet Malibu will receive a diesel from CruzeJuly 13, 2018
Restyling four-door Chevrolet will enter the market this fall.
In April 2018 in the States debuted a refreshed sedan Malibu. The model received a new radiator grille and a front bumper, as well as a “four-door” there was a certified version of the RS, differing in decor. Technical update then only one was declared – a gasoline 160-horsepower turbo four 1.5 was equipped with a variator, which replaced the six-speed automatic transmission. Now it turned out that Malibu’s engine range can be replenished with diesel.
In Korea (the model is produced both in this country and in the USA) photographed camouflaged sedan, in the cabin of which there was a hint – a sticker with the inscription “diesel”. Apparently, the diesel car was brought to the tests. The pictures were published by the local edition of Top Rider. It is assumed that Malibu will receive a 1.6 Ecotec turbodiesel – such a motor is in the range of the latest Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Equinox. The engine produces 137 hp (325 Nm), it can be combined with a six-speed manual, 6-speed automatic or 9-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to the already mentioned 1.5T engine in the line of Malibu still includes a four-cylinder turbo engine 2.0 (250 hp), which works in tandem with 9AKP. In addition, in the US, the sedan is available with an 185-horsepower hybrid unit consisting of an atmospheric 1.8 and two electric motors.
Most likely, the diesel four-door sedan will appear on the American and Korean markets. True, the timing of the premiere of the model with the engine on “heavy” fuel is still unknown. Updated Chevrolet Malibu with a gasoline engine and hybrid installation in the US will appear in the fall of 2018, the price is not announced. Pre-reform sedan costs from 21 680 dollars (excluding taxes and shipping)
We note that Malibu is inferior to its main competitors in the States: in 2017, 185 857 four-door Chevrolets were sold, while Toyota Camry sold 387 081 copies last year, Honda Accord in the same period acquired 322 655 owners in the USA, sales of Nissan Altima (Teana in other markets) amounted to 254,996 units. Meanwhile, none of the listed “Japanese” in the States does not have a diesel version.
